Rewriting My Story: How Motherhood Inspired Me to Finally Follow My Heart
After 17 years in the corporate world, six of those spent in an intense job many would dream of—traveling the world, working with amazing individuals—I found myself at a crossroads. For over five years, I had quietly pursued my passion for health and fitness, becoming a certified health and fitness coach. But no matter how hard I tried, my corporate life always seemed to get in the way. Most days, I’d finish work late, rush to the gym, make a quick dinner, attempt to read for 15 minutes, and collapse into bed, barely having time for anything else. It felt like I was constantly juggling but never truly holding onto the life I wanted.
EVERYTHING CHANGED
Everything changed when my son, Rayan, was born. His arrival made me stop and reconsider everything. I needed to pause, to take time for my family, and to give myself space to figure out what I really wanted from life. Leaving corporate wasn’t an easy decision. I spent months asking for advice, hesitating, questioning whether I was making the right choice. But deep down, I already knew the answer. I had known it for a long time. I just needed the push, and the signs kept showing up, one after the other.
The moment of clarity came while I was walking in a park in Toronto with my sister, her husband, and my son. We passed a man who was deep in conversation, and I overheard him say, “Life is rich. People work for money but don’t realize that life itself is rich” That was it. That was the moment everything clicked for me. I realized I could no longer wait for the perfect time—I had to create it.
I QUIT MY JOB
So, I made the leap and left my corporate career to focus on my true passion: health and wellness. Throughout my pregnancy and early motherhood, I connected with so many mothers who felt overwhelmed—working long hours, trying to juggle it all, and feeling lost when it came to their own well-being. I saw myself in these women, and I knew I had to do something. That’s why I launched Mumchkin—a wellness platform for moms and moms-to-be—with my sister, Nadine, who’s also a mom-to-be and an expert in prenatal and postnatal fitness, as well as a certified sports nutritionist.
Nadine has been helping moms and women for over 8 years with their fitness and nutrition. In fact, she trained me before and after I had Rayan, and I bounced back faster and stronger than ever.
At Mumchkin, we’re bringing our combined experience to help mothers navigate the often-overwhelming journey of motherhood. Through my health coaching, I’m offering guidance that goes beyond just fitness. It’s about taking care of the whole person—mentally, emotionally, and physically.
I help moms with time management, so they can carve out moments for themselves without feeling guilty. I teach stress management techniques to help navigate the overwhelm of motherhood. And I provide practical guidance on how to eat well and live well, in ways that are sustainable for busy moms. We know how much women go through and how easy it is to feel lost and disconnected, especially with the pressures of society. But if we, as moms, aren’t emotionally connected to ourselves, we can’t be connected to our families. Emotional regulation is everything.
Nadine will offer her expertise in fitness and nutrition, creating specialized programs to help moms feel strong, confident, and nourished throughout pregnancy and beyond.
Though I’ve transitioned from the corporate world, my passion for communication and PR remains strong. I will continue to work on communication projects that inspire me, blending my love for connecting with people with my new focus on health and wellness.
I’m embracing this new chapter of life, and I know this is exactly what I need right now. If my story resonates with you, or if you’re a mom who’s feeling the same pull toward change, reach out to me, and let’s work together. You deserve to live a life that brings you joy, too.
